Objective: To provide a developmentally appropriate environment that promotes the health, safety, social, emotional, physical, cognitive and language development of each individual child that enters the program. We implement the Nisga’a Culture and Language development into our curriculum. Provide resources for parents and opportunities for parents to get new activity ideas to do with their children at home.
- Program: Head Start Services 0 – 6 years old
- Hours: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Mondays to Fridays
All Head Start staff have updated Child Care First Aid and certificates that benefit their employment as caregivers. The children leave on a happy note, most times not wanting to leave. We get down to the child’s level and listen to them as we would adults.
Children learn by experience, hands on activities and through their senses. We encourage the children to problem solve and talk during snack/lunch times. This promotes language and confidence. We include Nisga’a language and culture into our programs. We all say the Nisga’a prayer along with the children before we eat together, go on field trips and do activities that relate to our cultural calendar.
We base our curriculum on children’s interests and by what is expected from the school system as the children enter Elementary school. For example rhyming, colors, counting and writing their name.
We assist with activities related to members that are holders of Nisga’a Village Entitlements, Nisga’a Nation Entitlements and Fee Simple. We assist members in the paperwork process which gives opportunities of transfers or mortgage requests.
